Journal History

The journal started out in 1995 as the journal of the Primary Care Specialist Group of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, under the editorship of Sheila Teasdale.

Simon de Lusignang took over as editor in 2008, with the journal becoming free-full-text-online and free-to-publish as part of BCS’s charitable mission in 2013.

After 20 years as Informatics in Primary Care, the journal was renamed Journal of Innovation in Health Informatics in 2015 to reflect its broader scope.

From 2019, the journal is being published in partnership with BMJ Publishing Ltd under the new title: BMJ Health & Care Informatics as an open access title.
